Juneteenth Legacy Theatre brings its acclaimed and only theatrical celebration of the historical African- American holiday of Independence, “Juneteenth” to New York City, where the festival makes its new home at the Nuyorican Poets Café in Manhattan’s East Village. There are several creative opportunities for playwrights, directors and actors at all stages of their careers as well as for sound and light designers!

Playwrights
Juneteenth Legacy Theatre welcomes open submissions to its annual festival of new play staged readings from established and emerging playwrights, who write about the African-American experience and its legacy. Preferred themes are: (1) 19th Century experience especially in New York State, (2) Harlem Renaissance Era, (3) Caribbean/Native American influences, (4) contemporary issues and youth, and (5) images of women. Accepting full-length (under 2 hours) shorts, musicals and plays with music.  The submission period is December 15 - March 15.

How to submit your script:
Mail four (4) copies of your script to: JLT, 605 Water St., #21B, New York NY 10002. Include a $15 script reading fee payable by money order to JLT.
Do not email your script or send a synopsis. Scripts are not returned. Selected playwrights are notified by April 30th. Scripts are held over for consideration in future festivals.

Actors and Directors
Please revisit the site in April.  A new system is being developed.

Students
There are comprehensive internships available from May to July with the festival in the areas of administration, audience services, performance, production and telecommunications. Internships are unpaid, but you will learn and do a lot.  JLT participates in the annual Intern Fair sponsored by ART/NY in March.  If you are not able to attend you can download an application.
